Catawba Rhododendron, Rhododendron catawbiense



Habitat: Wet woods, swamps, bogs, and in moist mountains.

Characteristics: May attain a height of 30-40 feet with the trunks having a diameter of 10-12 inches. Flowers range in color from pink to purple. This species blooms in the latter part of May and is often confused with Rhododendron maximum which blooms in late June and early July.
