Great Rhododendron, Rhododendron maximum



Habitat: Wet woods, swamps, bogs, moist mountains, seepage areas, and slopes.

Characteristics: Attains a height of 20-25 feet; the trunk having a diameter of 6-10 inches. Flowers are usually white but may be pink or pinkish-purple. This species blooms in late June and early July and is often confused with Rhododendron catawbiense which blooms in mid- to late-May.
