White Pine, Pinus strobus



Habitat: A common evergreen tree of both hardwood and swamp forests. Tends to prefer sandy / loamy soils. A popular ornamental tree often grown as a "fence".

Characteristics: White pine attains a height of 80-100 feet. Before extensive harvesting in the past, trees reached heights of 200 feet. Needles are 2-4 inches long and grow in bundles of 5. With proper growing conditions, white pine may grow 1 foot or more a year. White pine is extensively grown for use as Christmas trees.
