White Oak, Quercus alba



Habitat: Moist and/or dry woods, pastures, meadows, etc. Frequently used as an ornamental or shade tree in residential areas.

Characteristics: Unlike the other oaks, the leaves of this species have rounded lobes, with no bristles. Easily distinguished from the other oaks. Trees attain a height of 60-70 feet, often growing to 150 feet. The diameter of mature trees is 2-3 feet; the leaves are 3-9 inches long. Unlike the red oaks, white oaks lack bristles at the tips of their leaves.
