Blackberry, Rubus  spp.



Habitat: A pioneeer plant that is ubiquitous throughout Virginia, especially along roadsides, in pastures, meadows, and other disturbed areas.

Characteristics: Often grows in dense thickets that are usually 3 to 5 feet in height. Flowers appear in mid- to late-spring and are either white or pinkish in color. The delicious, edible fruits appear in mid-July.
