White Birch, Betula papyrifera



Habitat: A tree commonly found in mixed northern hardwood forests, preferring moist but slightly drained (mesic) fertile soils.

Characteristics: In the urban environment, white birches are between 15 and 40 feet in height, though, it is common for them to attain 70-80 feet in the forest. The diameter of the trunk is between 1-3 feet. The leaves are 1-4 inches long and drooping catkins are present. It flowers in the spring.
